Salary: $56,537 - $70,825

Position Description: Community Engagement Worker

The Community Engagement worker delivers a range of services and programs across the Wentworth LGA and into the Robinvale community with the aim of closing the gap and improving the lives of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
This position is primarily funded by the Australian Commonwealth Government through the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.  The Programme is part of the Indigenous Advancement Strategy which is committed to improving the lives of Indigenous Australians through increased participation in education and work, and making communities safer.

The position objectives includes the following
  • Getting Children into school.
  • Improving education outcomes including Year 12 attainment.
  • Improving youth transition to vocational and higher education and work.
  • Supporting families to give children a good start in life through improved early childhood. development, care education and school readiness.
  • Improved health, social and emotional wellbeing.
  • A reduction in offending, violence and victimisation in communities. 
A key aspect to achieving this objective is through providing a range of services and programs including flexible Case work, Home Visiting, Playgroups, Tenancy Support, Youth Programs  and other local community engagement initiatives that meet the needs of children and families and broader needs of local communities(s).
The Community Engagement team comprises of the following key program areas:
  • Indigenous Advancement Strategy – Children and Schooling.
  • Indigenous Advancement Strategy – Safety and Wellbeing.
  • Safe Aboriginal Youth.
  • Homes Out West Tenancy Management.
  • Tenancy Support & Education Project.
This position is based in the Shire of Wentworth but works across to Robinvale.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • The person employed as a Case Worker will be expected to have previous relevant experience in the field and will be required to hold an accredited qualification relevant to the position at Degree Level or above.
  • Diploma level qualification in relevant field will be considered, on the proviso that the applicant will undertake further Tertiary studies.
  • Experience in dealing with children who have experienced trauma and interrupted attachment preferred – but not essential.
  • A current driver’s licence and a willingness to travel and preparedness to be accommodated overnight when required.
